They can be picked up at anytime. Smuggled items differ from Agency Pickups or Hidden Stashes which conceal small objects in scenery and objects.

Mission planning is an option in the form of episodic missions. It lets players discover different starting points as well as smuggled items and gear slots prior to stepping into the map. These planning options increase as players advance through challenges and gain higher Mission Mastery levels. This allows players to prepare the best mission for every challenge.

Gear Slot

Early on in the game players will notice that their gear slots become full, resulting in the common "Your Gear Slots are full" message, which blocks Max from picking new equipment until the old items are removed or space is found. The solution is the Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trials which give players more inventory space in exchange for completing challenge missions. However, as many of these challenges are scattered around the world and could be missed, it can take an extended time to obtain the most inventory slots that are available in the game.

The five Gear Slots of a player can be filled with up to five different gear types, which must be selected from the Gear Selection menu before a Break-In begins. Each gear item (except for the Pistol) will take up one Gear Slot, while a grouping of similar items (such as the grouping of Grenades) can only use one Gear Slot.

Agency pick-ups

As you progress through Mission Mastery levels, you unlock various agency pickups on the map. These locations let you keep items that don't fit in your concealed weapon or gear slot, and take them out later.

These pickups can be very useful if your mission requires you to go through a frisk or you have a weapon on you that could raise suspicion. You can only hide one item per game at an agency pickup location.

This DLC also adds new security and asset protection contracts to the agency. Contact the receptionist at the agency and purchase snacks and armor. Then, walk to the designated marker and spot a group upon arrival.
